What part of your life do you want regulated?
I saw that on a bumper sticker driving into work. I thought it was a good question, and one well worth asking yourself and others.

That’s not how it works. Regulations get passed because people want *other* people’s lives regulated. Particularly when the Others exercise freedoms that are unfamiliar or make them uncomfortable. It’s like the old headline from The Onion about 95% of people wanting other people to use mass transit.
You are right.
What’s useful about the statement/question is a conversation starter. Because people want YOUR life regulated, not their own. And so… why? Maybe create some self-examination. But of course, if they did that in the first place, we wouldn’t have to ask the question to begin with.
