My new iPhone

I finally get to join the ranks of the cool kids. I bought an iPhone 3 GS. Trying out the WordPress app.

More later….

Updated: oh… man I gotta get used to typing on that thing. My poor thumbs…  I’m fixing and updating this post on my laptop.

I always knew the smooth face of the phone was good in a lot of ways, especially that it allows you to do well, anything as it’s adaptable. But the total lack of tactical feel of keys beneath your fingertips doth suck.

  1. If it is any consolation, you do get used to it and then it is almost like second nature. I think you figure it out just about the same time you figure out the quirks with auto correct.

I am not sure if it was coordination on my part or what, but I also had trouble initially finding the right key with my fat fingers. But when almost every Apple app gained both a portrait and landscape keyboard in 3.0 it was like the clouds opened up.

    Good luck.

    • Yeah, I’m getting used to the typing (typo-ing?) and the autocorrect. It’s actually prett slick. The impression I’m getting off the auto-correct is that it’s not just a misspelling auto-correct, but that it seems to be a step above understanding slips of the fingers due to the keyboard. It just seems a little more savvy than a simple misspelling sort of thing.

I do find that going to landscape mode really helps, but I have noticed that some apps are NOT working that way, which really hurts. I found on those that I get further if I type with just one thumb (or maybe even a “finger peck”) and go slower.

Anyway, so far I’m enjoying it. It’s quite neat.

And as warned by friends… my kids have been using it more than I have. 🙂

      • Yeah the auto correct is pretty cool. About the only problem I had in the beginning with auto-correct is when you type a word and the last letter is what triggers the auto-correct. If you hit space right after the last letter too quickly it replaces the word. My wife ‘Marketa’ always ended up being ‘Markets’ in emails and SMSs. So one day I just had to go type her name a couple times and cancel the correction to trigger the “learn word” feature.

I’m glad you (and the kids 🙂 ) are enjoying the experience so far.

        • I have noticed it’s learning what I’m typing, which is cool.

So far, so good. I wish it had better battery life… it’s amazing how fast it drains, but it’s understandable given what’s churning in there.
