Covers continue with Fozzy covering Accept’s “Balls to the Wall”
And Chris Jericho still has hair….
In chatting with Karl, he gave me the idea to do a run of Sunday Metal of metal bands doing cover songs.
And so we’ll begin.
Testament, covering Aerosmith, “Nobody’s Fault”
Queensryche – “I Don’t Believe in Love”
What can I say. I’ve always had a thing for Jan Kuehnemund. 🙂
Growing up in the Washington DC area, how could you not know about Child’s Play?
Back in my radio days I got to do an interview with the band. John Allen (more recently of SR-71 and Charm City Devils) was a super-nice guy. I recall they all weren’t very happy with singer Brian Jack at the time. I also remember their manager talking to me about how they wanted to release the song “My Bottle” as a single but the record company was against it because it was a drinking song. He said that George Thorogood’s made a career out of drinking songs. I didn’t argue with the guy at the time, just listened, but I always remember thinking “well, his songs are about partying and good times… “My Bottle” sounds more like a problem alcoholic”.

Still, I always dug Child’s Play. They put on a good show, high energy, lots of fun. Just bad timing, what with Nirvana coming along….
As Daughter progresses in her drumming, she gets exposed to more bands, more dummers.
And more opportunities to talk to her about drug and alcohol abuse.
John Bonham? Don’t be like him.
Steven Adler? Don’t be like him (still alive, but still…).
Jeff Porcaro? Don’t be like him.
John Panozzo? Don’t be like him.
Keith Moon? Don’t be like him.
Jimmy Sullivan? Don’t be like him.
Stuart Cable? Don’t be like him.
Sure, play drums like these guys — especially Bonham — but that’s where you should stop emulating them.
She gets it. I hope she will never forget it.
Accept – Balls to the Wall
Some years ago I saw Tesla live here in Austin. They were touring behind their “Real to Reel” albums.
One of the opening acts was a band called “Poets & Pornstars”. Had never heard of them before, but they put on one hell of a set and really rocked. I was an instant fan, buying their album during the break after their set and before Tesla hit the stage. The music was great, they knew how to put on a show. Just fantastic.
And they had a female bass player. No question she was a big draw for the band as I could hear it in the comments said by people in the crowd around me.
Her name? Sally Hope.
Alas, the singer of P&P opted to leave the band to return to acting. While the rest of the band tried to keep going, it looks like things fell apart. Alas… it was a good band with good potential, but these things happen. I have always wondered what happened to them, if maybe they found a new project and were able to keep going.
Well… sorta.
I just saw this post on A Girl’s Guide To Guns, which was guest-authored by Sally. Started from this post on her own site.
So it does look like she’s got a new gig, just a very different one. 🙂
Glad to see she’s still rockin’.
