Logic fail

Colorado State University’s ban on concealed carry is no more. (h/t Uncle). But… logic fails:

“It’s unfortunate that the school (CSU) will be allowing guns on campus,” said Daniel Vice, senior attorney at the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. “It will be one of the few colleges in the nation to do so and will endanger the lives of students at the school.”

Not that the Brady’s have ever been about logic. But the implication is the mere presence of guns makes a place more dangerous.

Fact is, the world outside the bubble of college is loaded with guns. The data shows that states enacted concealed carry, violent crime rates went down.

Furthermore, it seems that when someone opts to go crazy, it’s always in a gun free zone.

So, while it’d be nice if the Brady Bunch could show their work on how they came up with this conclusion, we know there’s no work to be shown.

    • Didn’t know who Tom Mauser was. A quick Google search turned up this:

      Ah.

The sad thing is, it’s all misdirected effort. The UK has shown us that. You can ban the implement, but that does nothing to stop the root of the problem. So ban guns, that doesn’t stop people from being bullied, that doesn’t stop people wanting to seek revenge, that doesn’t stop anger, that doesn’t stop humans being human. If someone is hell bent on doing evil things, they will do evil things…. they’ll find another implement (e.g. UK ban guns, so they turn to knives) or just use their bare hands.

I sometimes wonder what the world would be like if people addressed actual root causes of problems. For instance in Mauser’s case, instead of trying to ban guns, why not try to figure out why Klebold and Harris did what they did and work to cure that. If he doesn’t buy “bullying” as the reason, why is he making no effort to find out what the real cause is and work to solve that?

    • That’s a bit of hyperbole. You are attributing malice where mere ignorance or even possibly rose colored optimism are their direction.

Here in Oklahoma, the legislature has passed an Open Carry bill and sent it to the Gov. for ratification. Even though about half of the states have some sort of open carry the predictable claims of “There’ll be gunfights in the streets!” still came out (despite all evidence to the contrary).

It is important to note, however, that the country is becoming more friendly to gun owners in spite of the anti-gun hyperbole that is commonly heard. We don’t need to use hyperbole because the friggin’ facts are on our side.

Brady doesn’t want people to die. Their preferred policies may have that effect, but that’s not the objective. They’re just bad at what they do.

  1. I agree that Brady doesn’t want people to die, but they DO want political control and power. Brady is NOT an entity that should be consider anything, except, corrupt, money, and power hungry. It’s basal members are a group of people who have built a life on stealing from Americans. They don’t want to protect you anymore than they want to kill you, but they damn sure want your money and your rights.

Make no mistake about the Brady campaign they are not “just bad at what they do”, what they do is bad.
