The US Postal Service has their flat rate Priority Mail service. You get a box for a flat rate, and if your stuff fits into that box it ships in that box for that flat rate.
I always wondered about that.
If I had a clump of feathers that fit in there, it’d cost the same as a clump of lead that fit in there. While the volume may be the same, the weight certainly is not. I wonder how much USPS’s price determinations take such things into account.
The Postman just stopped by my house. He needed help with my delivery because well… it weighed a lot.
I really wonder about that “clump of lead” part… because what I received was my shipment of 9mm 115 grain FMJ bullets from Precision Delta. 🙂  Lead indeed.
Never used PD bullets before, but without question they were inexpensive, especially when ordered in bulk. They seem to be well regarded and reviewed so hey… why not? Part of reloading is for the cost-savings. My 9mm recipe seemed to fair the same regardless of bullet used, so we should be good to go here.
We’ll see how it goes.
I’m pretty sure my mail carrier hates me for the same reason.
They use their personal vehicles to deliver mail, and I can imagine how much fun it is loading 4k .45ACP bullets in Honda already packed with the regular mail.
Ah, lucky them. My mail carrier has a USPS “mini-car” (whatever you call them). But they still parked in my driveway as close to the door as possible (usually they just park on the road).
I’m sure they hate me, but oh well. 🙂
Usually my heavy packages come UPS, and the UPS guy is used to me. 🙂
The worse was the 5000 55gr FMJBTs from Wideners. It all fit in a large Priority Mail box but was a beast to carry inside. The 2000 180gr .40cal FMJs from Precision Delta were comparatively easier since they were much better packaged in a double box and left at my front door by Brown Santa.
Oh damn…. those FMJBT’s… that’s like 40 lbs!
I did notice PD did package them in multiple packages. Wise thing. 🙂
Those prices for jacketed 9mm bullets even beat the BerrysMfg plated bullets I normally use. Thanks for the heads-up. Someone needs to tell them to shut off the autoplay background music. I wonder how many customers they have lost because of that annoying music…
Yup! I’ve been using Berrys because they were the cheapest I could find in town, and they still are. But PD beats them. I was reluctant to buy online because of the weight and thus shipping factor, but this works out great. Credit to foo.c for pointing PD out to me.
And yes, I hate the music too.
The catch on the whole flat rate box/shipping…
It’s up to 70 lbs per box. Don’t ask me how I found that one out (the hard way).
Ah, so there is a limit.
