The Kel-Tec RFB has been an object of my desire for some time. A bullpup in .308? Mmmmm.
GunBlast just did a review of it, with lots of pictures. I want one even more now.

The RFB looks excellent, and being an Old School FALer, I LOVE that they didn’t decide to use Yet Another Proprietary Magazine, and did the sensible thing and went with cheap and readily available FAL magazines. I love that they may have finally broken the spell of the “bad bullpup trigger” and might actually have a workable bullpup system… much less OAL with no sacrifice in barrel length/velocity.
That being said, the thing that’s always going to be a sticking point with me on whizbang new firearms: price. I don’t care how much overhead, fixed or variable costs they need to cover when they first release it… I aint gonna bite at the sucker price/MSRP or in most cases even the new retail “street” price for ANYthing. I have the kind of personality (some would call it “cheapskate” sickness), that has me take it alomost personally when someone suggests a price for something I KNOW deep down in my black little heartest of hearts is much too high for the item and regardless of any so-called supply and demand or prevailing market forces or any other Adam Smithian cliche is marked up all to hell and could REALLY be sold to me at a much lower price and still result in a profit for whoever is selling me the item.
I just KNOW this rifle is not in any way shape or form worth $1500. I don’t care how many rich fools bite at that price, its just not a $1500 rifle, regardless of what the “market will bear”, and nothing will convince me otherwise. Just. Is. Not. It pains me to have to pass it up, but I’m the chances are slim I’d ever own one of these simply because I cannot bear the thought of me parting with that much of my hard earned money on something I am CERTAIN is severely overpriced. I’d consider buying at something like $700, because I think that’s a price that’s much closer to the actual cost of production, but a penny more than that would for me be damn near insanity.
Yeah, that’s my main sticking point… the price. I’m not sure how much of that price is actually based upon materials and manufacturing and such, and then how much is based upon “market” and the fact that other bulpups are in this price range so hey we just picked a number.
Still, it doesn’t lessen the want. 🙂
Want seconded. As a lefty this is pretty cool.
I think they’ll sell well, even at close 2 grand. I won’t be rushing out to get one though, but I could see one in my future.
If you read the GunBlast review, that’s one of his big selling points for this: it’s totally lefty-friendly.
Who knows. If one went on the market for $1000, I’d have to see if I could scrounge up the money.

You and me both. Unfortunately, my want list has grown somewhat in the three years since they announced this thing, and it has slid a few slots down. But, still, a short-barreled .308 without actually being SBR’d is all kinds of shiny.
Exactly. I love the picture on the GunBlast website, the side by side comparison to a DPMS SASS… same barrel length, amazingly compact.
Just think… the SHOT show is coming up. More want will be invoked! 😉
