Ruger SR9c

While the Ruger home page still says there’s 2 hours and 20 minutes (as of this writing) until they unveil their latest offering, it seems their press release got out a wee early.

The Firearm Blog has pics, and I’m sure more information will be forthcoming.

Preliminary reaction? It seems a logical thing for Ruger to have come out with, in terms of fleshing out their product line. I don’t like crud like magazine disconnects, but it’s par for the Ruger course there.

Updated: It’s now public and on Ruger’s website.

Cue the jokes about how soon after it starts shipping that the recalls will commence. 😉

In all seriousness, while on the surface it doesn’t look like a gun I’d care for (tho I’d have to fondle and fire one before passing any sort of true judgment here), it is welcome to see Ruger developing and evolving themselves and their product line.

Updated 2: GunBlast has a hands-on review.

  1. I came pretty close to buying an SR9. It fits the hand pretty nice and isn’t so blocky feeling like a lot of polymer guns.

I think they should either ditch the thumb safety, or put a lighter and shorter trigger in it though. Having both a thumb safety and a DA trigger is kind of the worst of both worlds. (And ditch the magazine disconnect while they are at it.)

    • Not blocky feeling is good. I got to fondle a Wilson Combat Spec-Ops 9 and while there’s a lot that’s nice about it, the first thing that hit me when I held it was “gosh, this feels blocky”, and that’s coming from someone that handles a Springfield XD-9 regularly.

I agree about all the safety stuff too. I think those are lawyer features.

  2. Guys stop chirping about the mag disconnect. It’s getting old and it can be removed in less than 5 minutes. As for the manual safety I have no issue about it. I actually like having the saftey as a fail safe. It is easily brushed off when drawing. Without a manual safety a firearm can still go off even if it’s a DA trigger. Likely no but can still happen. I like having the extra fail safe especially considering it’s so easy to flick on and off. I can guarantee I’m just as fast as you with my manual safety as you drawing with a pistol without one. There is no extra motion etc.

Me I’m pretty excited about the compact although I find the current full sized version more than able to conceal.

  3. SR9c is an absolute joy to shoot. Easily 2,000 rounds with NO PROBLEMS. Great gun to shoot and the black Nitrodox finish is georgeous. Almost a dark gray, satin finish. Great fire power with the 17 round mag.
