I highly recommend the Burris P.E.P.R. mount, but only if you want something that hardmounts on, and cannot easily be solidly attached or removed without tools. If you want quick-detach, you should probably look elsewhere (though I am tending towards LaRue over the Swanites these days).
I agree that if you want something that mounts and stays ther, the Burris P.E.P.R. mount is the way to go. If you want a mount that you can quickly remove (or reattach), LaRue is the way to go. And hey… LaRue isn’t too far from my house either. God Bless Texas.
In my case, I want something that stays there. This will be for an AR that will be used for hunting, with no plans to have a BUIS or any real need to be “quick detach”. So for the money, the P.E.P.R. is the way to go.
Whoops. Slow on the uptake I am.
I went ahead and got a set of MBUPS to go on my AR, but that was simply for the funs, and an ingrained (thanks to the military) belief that no firearm should be without irons, regardless of its optics situation. But for the price, the quality, and the function, you really cannot beat that little PEPR thing. Of course, I went full-bore cheapo-mall-ninja and stuck a Millet DMS in it, but it works about as well as the mount does, and lets me shoot as well as I normally can, so no complaints on that either :).
On my other AR I’ve got the BUIS in place… just still hum-hawing about what Aimpoint to put on her (2 or 4 MOA, do I really want to spend the money on that ML4, etc.). And every time I think about purchasing, always something else comes up that takes precedence.
I hear what you’re saying about having the irons regardless, but in this case well.. .if the optics go bad there’s no way I’m going to get them pulled off anyway. 🙂 Of course one could say I should have bought a LaRue mount from the get go but well… given the nature of this rifle and its intended purpose and all the money factors well…. eh, it’ll do. Life’s full of compromises, and this is one of them. It should do.

Also, that webpage definitively rocks.

I’m one step ahead of you. 🙂
