  1. Hey thanks!

I’m wondering if “growing up” is possible for the hard political left. Or desirable at all as regards their agenda.

Idealogues (and utopians in particular) believe that their vision of the world is possible, if only they completely destroy reality as we know it, and anything and anyone who doesn’t match their vision.

One ends up with scorched earth and dead folks when one tries to deny the nature and way of things in the real world.

    • I see nothing wrong with dreaming, but if you want your dreams to come true you do have to consider reality. All too often that’s forgotten.

As for growing up, I dunno. They seem to be all about the nanny state. People that are mentally and emotionally adults (not just physically) don’t need mommy watching over them. Maybe they’re needing the nanny for their own good… and unfortunately taking the rest of us with them.

      • There’s nothing wrong with dreaming – but saying “and the world will conform to my dream and I’ll destroy anything in my way” is what makes utopians so incredibly dangerous.

They don’t REALLY want people growing up. Dependency is good for creating solid voting blocs that will vote you in on the promises of more entitlements. The Romans figured that out a long time ago.

        • One thing that I find curious about the Democrat party is how they tout themselves as the party of the people, the party that understands the little guy, the poor, that fights for their interests and understands what they’re going through. But how can that be when so many of those Democrats are millionaires? There’s a disconnect somewhere… and I think it lies in the minds of the masses that keep following them and making up that voting bloc.

          • My maternal grandfather (who I worshipped for good reason growing up – he was the assistant DA for the state of North Carolina) told me “the Democrats stand for the working man.” I was a Democrat for a long time based on his word alone.

Looking back, I think he believed that Democrats ended the Great Depression, which he lived through. So, old data of sorts.

I think that J6P is really short sighted – “I’ll vote for X, they said I’d get Y from the loving government” and fail (or refuse, for hope’s sake) to see that:

            – “government” money is just YOUR money with a substantial percentage skimmed off for operating an ever growing bureaucracy

            – politicians who get re-elected over and over again on entitlements actually have a vested interest in making sure their constituency remains dependent, ensuring votes (and malaise for the constituents)

            – big business LOVES regulation because it increases the cost of entry for smaller would-be competitors. They grease the politicians via donations to keep this in play.

Politicians go into office millionaires and leave office multi-millionaires, somehow, on a low 6 figure salary… and yet no one finds this odd, and believes that populist politicians have their best interests at heart. Propaganda is a powerful thing, that easily bridges any logical disconnect.

BTW my grandfather was fingered for a national political position, but after visiting DC just once, would have nothing to do with it. I think he saw the light…
