True Nutrition Whey Flavor #30 – Peanut Butter and Jelly

I bought the TrueNutrition.com 38 Flavor sample pack.

Peanut Butter and Jelly

Hrm.

It was kinda novel… you generally do have your PB&J with milk, so here it all was in one drink. And yes, you tasted artificial peanut butter flavor mixed with artificial (grape) jelly flavor. Yes, it mixed to a purple color.

Oo.. just had a little aftertaste burp as I wrote this. And um….

Well, it’s not gross. It is novel. It’s kinda like the Concord Grape Juice, but with peanut butter. And while I was ok with the Concord Grape Juice, something about this, not so much. But in a way, I could see wanting to drink it again merely to say I’m drinking my PB&J. 🙂

Yup… this proves it. Guns can only be used for evil purposes.

Due to some recent events, and because it’s a big US Presidential election year, of course many folks are talking gun control and gun bans. Why? Because guns are evil, guns are bad, and if we just banned guns everything would become hunky-dory.

I just read this article, which proves that point:

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A citizen with a gun stopped a knife wielding man as he began stabbing people Thursday evening at the downtown Salt Lake City Smith’s store.

Some crazy guy walks into a store, buys a knife, then turns around and starts stabbing people. He seriously stabbed two people while screaming “YOU KILLED MY PEOPLE!”. That’s textbook crazy right there.

Then, before the suspect could find another victim – a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. “A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith’s grabbed him.”

So you see, proof right there that guns can only be used for evil purposes.

Oh wait.

That looks to me like a gun was used for a good purpose. It stopped a crazy person from going on a killing spree.

Actually check that. The gun didn’t do anything. You see, it’s an inanimate object. It can’t do anything. No, it’s all about the person using the gun.

Some private citizen, carrying their gun (concealed carry, it would seem), was able to draw their weapon, point it at this rampaging lunatic, and got them to stop their rampage before tons of ugly could happen. The gun didn’t do anything, but this person did a very good thing and happened to use a gun to do it. In fact, without the gun they wouldn’t have been able to do this good thing. Huh. Imagine that.

Where were the police? Because I’m told the police will protect me and are all the protection we need. I’m sure they would have shown up eventually, but how much death and destruction would have happened?

This also demonstrates that concealed carry is bad. Because private citizens don’t have the wherewithal. They’ll just be a liability. They’ll just be dangerous. Uh huh.

By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, “This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time.”

Dozens of other shoppers, who too could have become victims, are also thankful for the gun carrying man.

And I bet if you were there in the thick of it, you too would be thankful for that man — and his gun.

It’s not the implement. It’s the man using the implement.

True Nutrition Whey Flavor #29 – Orange Juice Indulgence

I bought the TrueNutrition.com 38 Flavor sample pack.

Orange Juice Indulgence.

I was skeptical. The notion of OJ and Milk together didn’t seem like it’d be all that good. Well… maybe the case if it tasted like real orange juice, but it doesn’t. 🙂  If anything, it gave me the impression of orange sherbet, which wasn’t too bad a deal.

I’ve only a few flavor packets left, and I’m forming my opinion and course of action. Won’t make a determination until I’m done tho.

True Nutrition Whey Flavor #28 – Key Lime Pie

I bought the TrueNutrition.com 38 Flavor sample pack.

Key Lime Pie.

This was… interesting. It tasted like every bit of the pie, including a hint of a graham cracker crust. It was a little weird, but it was alright.

True Nutrition Whey Flavor #27 – Lemon Meringue Pie

I bought the TrueNutrition.com 38 Flavor sample pack.

Lemon Meringue Pie

Dear God No. 😯

Mixed this with milk. I don’t know if this is the flavor. I don’t know if it was just me. Maybe I got a fluke packet. Or maybe it does suck that bad. But this was just repulsive… and the after-taste lingered, which made it worse.

That really surprises me because while I may not care for some of the flavors, none have given any indication of being just flat out gross. And I can’t imagine they’d market something flat out gross. So I have to figure there’s a fluke in here somewhere, but alas having only 1 packet there’s no real way I can tell for sure. If they want to send me another packet, I’d be happy to try it out. But I admit, I’m in no great rush to spend my money again to find out. There are 37 other flavors I can choose from…life will go on for me if I never have this again.  🙂

2012-07-26 workout – Wendler 5/3/1 program, Cycle 12, Deadlift/Press 1 (again)

And now day 2 of starting cycle 12 over again.

    • 1x8x295
  • 5 reps – Press (working max: 155#)
    • 2x5x45 (warmup)
    • 1x5x65
    • 1x5x80
    • 1x3x95
    • 1x5x100 (work)
    • 1x5x120

  • Asst. #1 – DB Rows

    • 3 x 8/6/6 x BW (around 235)
  • Asst. #4 – DB Hammer Curls
    • 3 x 10/6/6 x 30

For some reason today I was all about speed and explosive power. When I was doing my deadlifts, and especially when I was doing my Presses, I was just going fast… just exploding and moving the weight with as much speed as I could. Not sure why I did that, but I did. I think with Press it hit because the music blaring on the stereo was awesome. 🙂 But I cranked it hard and really dug it. I’m fine-tuning my Press technique, especially that whole issue with how I get a little dizzy when unracking and setting up for the first press.

On the pulldown abs… while I like the exercise, I don’t like the side-effects. The rope handles kill my hands and neck. Gym owner and I were talking and he had me try another variation… the type where you kneel on the floor, and using a single handle (like you would for cable crossovers) grabbing it like it’s a horn coming out of your unicorn forehead. I did it for one set, but the weight was too light, but I’m going to give it a try. It seems it’ll have its own suck, but hey… no harm in trying it and seeing.

And you can see my assistance reps dropped. Not sure why. My guesses are either 1. how I tore up the palm heel of my right hand some days ago, and the bruising and scabbing over really hurt when I put pressure on it, 2. from all the explosive main lifts, I was just pooped. No matter. I still worked hard, regardless of the actual numbers.

OH, and on deadlift. While it seems to make some more sense to pronate my left and supinate my right, that just is NOT working for me. I’m getting some sort of deposit on the inside palm “knuckle” of my right middle finger, and this just puts pressure on it. Plus I notice much more desire to “curl” the bar in this position. When I got to rep 5 on the last set I switched my grip and it felt a lot better… I lost my groove, but I think supinating my left and pronating my right is the better way. It was good to experiment, now I know for certain.

True Nutrition Whey Flavor #26 – Kiwi Strawberry

I bought the TrueNutrition.com 38 Flavor sample pack.

Kiwi Strawberry

What hit me the most here was wondering where the kiwi flavor was. I was looking for that tart banana-like flavor, and didn’t find it. It just tasted like strawberry. Maybe it was more subtle? Maybe if I had this more side-by-side to a “pure strawberry” flavor I could find it? It wasn’t bad at all, don’t get me wrong, but I just couldn’t find the kiwi flavoring.

True Nutrition Whey Flavor #25 – French Vanilla Cream

I bought the TrueNutrition.com 38 Flavor sample pack.

French Vanilla Cream.

It was… fine. I drank this one in water and all I can remember was feeling kinda neutral about it. But it’s about as close to “plain vanilla” as they offer both literally and figuratively.

2012-07-25 dry fire practice

Following TLG’s sample dry fire routine.

Week 2, Day 3, reloads

  1. 10 reps of wall drill from press-out 2H
  2. 20 reps reload from slidelock, slow, 2H
  3. 20 reps reload from slidelock, 3/4 speed, 2H
  4. 10 reps reload from slidelock, slow, 2H
  5. 10 reps of wall drill form press-out, 2H

While the session calls for different speeds, I did all my reloads fairly slow or even slower. I wanted to ensure the entire orchestration of movements was correct and solid.

I also did some Burkett Reloads and played around with where my eyes look. Do they look at the top edge of the magwell? the bottom edge? or somewhere “in” the magwell? Results inconclusive, but you do need to focus somewhere, not just have nebulous eyesight in the area. I think having a point “in” the magwell works best because that’s where you want things to go… aiming with your eyes, and if you aim to an edge, you’ll hit the edge. I’ll want to play with this more. To this point I’ve just “looked”, but I’m playing with a refinement of the look.

True Nutrition Whey Flavor #24 – Cookie Dough

I bought the TrueNutrition.com 38 Flavor sample pack.

Cookie Dough.

This was a let down. I love cookie dough ice cream. I love cookies. So I guess I had particular expectations of flavor, and when this didn’t meet them it was a real let down.

The flavor wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t what I wanted. I tried to place what it was about it, but just couldn’t come up with a way to describe it.

To be fair, I figure this is more a failure of expectation than anything about the flavor itself.
