Got a light massage on Wednesday. It’s helping my pain issues. Will keep it up for a bit. Also missed yesterday due to a required training session by my new work client. So today became SSB day because I like it and feel it’s been the biggest help to my squat progress.
.
No belt. Not about going heavy, but reps, volume, and technique. Truly the biggest thing SSB has given me is the torso tightness. Huge help.
.
Slingshot is fun. Still not sure how much it carries over, but at least it helps confidence in handling heavier weights.
.
No DB bench, since the slingshot irritated my arms and pec a bit. But I did lat raises.
.
Good day.

Me, probably 1984.
.
For a few pre-teen summers I went to a “Discovery Camp”. You chose 5 classes and had sessions every day. I don’t remember all I took, but I do remember taking tennis, typing (has paid off), and photography.
.
It was black-and-white photography. We learned how to take and compose pictures, and got to develop the photos as well. The film development and darkroom stuff was a lot of fun.
.
This picture is from the camp’s 1985 catalog, hence my guess it was taken in 1984.
.
I’ve bulked up since then. 😄

Deadlift: 425x1@8 (3 times)
.
Deadlift: 135x5, 225x3, 315x1, 405x1, 425x1, 425x1, 425x1.
.
Bike.
.
Deadlifts will take a slightly different approach. I want to work up to 1@7-8 for 3 sets. It’s all that lumbar squirrelly feeling I get. I want to see what lower weight, stricter technique focus, and then volume via sets will tell me in regards to my back.
.
This was ok, but I might want to stop sooner, like 365. Again, to allow me to examine what’s going on.
.
But more important, that thing with my shoulders that manifests as crippling biceps pain flared up hard while deadlifting. I opted to scratch the rest of the session.

Pin press (forehead, myo). Rope-handle cable hammer curls (myo). Bike.

Trying out those grippy X sleeves from Mark Bell. Stupid tight and stiff. I felt some legit support in them (more than other sleeves). Did they help my squat? Dunno, but even placebo is a help. 🤷♂️ Felt I cut it just a bit high, but the confidence will come. Besides, this is only the second time I’ve squatted 365. So happy to that.
.
Bench was ok. Left pec still irritated but singles are acceptable to it.

Enjoyed the article, very cool.
I do have to argue with the (very common) addition of the Tibetan Mastiff to the list of LGDs. Tibetans don’t generally bond with livestock the way most LGDs do, people yes, livestock no. They’ll guard the flocks or herds because they belong to their master, not because they really give a care about the animals involved.
A different approach, but similar results.
Will they continue to guard the flock when the master isn’t around? Or is the presence of the master needed?
From what I’ve been told…yes within limits (ie: while on the expected premises) depending on the dog. I don’t have any livestock of my own to try it on!
Interesting. Another dog to research later.
In our northeast mountains in Utah (the Uinta Mountains) there are a lot of Navajo and Basque sheepherders. The Basques favor the Pyrenees, and it is not unusual to see them out with the flocks.
In the western part of Utah, a lot of people have gotten llamas for guarding their sheep. They assume the role of sentinel, and will fiercely fight anything attempting to harm the flock. They have been known to run off cougars, coyotes, and dogs with not problems.
Lots of people have guard donkey’s too. But using llamas is a new one to me. Cool.
