Interview with Dr. He-Young Kimm

Interview with Dr. He-Young Kimm, founder of Han Mu Do.

Provides an explanation of Han Mu Do, what it is, where it came from, philosophy, with lots of display.

I did find it interesting that in the discussion of his background he didn’t mention his connection with Kuk Sool. Might not be anything significant (it’s an interview, only so much detail can be said) but still a lot of HMD’s technique work comes from Hapkido and Kuk Sool.

  1. Did you notice that he actually encourages his students to study other martial arts after they receive their first dan in Han Mu Do?

You just don’t find that in many martial art associations.

    I think it’s just fantastic.

  2. That’s one thing I love about Hanmudo. Usually after class, we black belts stay to work on Tae Kwon Do and Haidong Gumdo. As far as the Kuk Sul.. I asked the same Question to our GM. He smiled and said Dr Kimm has a good relationship with Kuk Sul but has severed ties due to some of his own “reasons” . When I started training under Dr Kimm, we where Kuk sul. We transfer to Hanmudo and began slowly phasing out any reference to Kuk sul. I though still practice the old Hyungs.
